Abstract

Christian Religious Education (CRE) teachers play a strategic role in shaping the morals of teenagers, especially amidst the challenges of the Modernization Era. This era has significant impacts on the way of thinking, lifestyle, and values in society, including a moral crisis among the younger generation. While modernization offers positive opportunities, it also creates the risk of moral degradation, such as juvenile delinquency, drug abuse, promiscuity, and weakening faith values. This paper aims to identify the challenges and strategies that CRE teachers use to instill moral values based on Christian teachings. The discussion highlights the importance of strategic approaches that are relevant to the times in guiding students to understand spiritual values, as well as promoting character strengthening amidst the overwhelming negative influences of modernization. Moral education through formal, non-formal, and informal approaches is proposed as the key to supporting the character development of teenagers. Technology-based teaching strategies integrated with Christian values are suggested as solutions to address the challenges of modernization while building a strong spiritual foundation. The urgency of this research lies in the effort to optimize the benefits of modernization without sacrificing moral and spiritual values, with the hope of creating a young generation that is faithful, virtuous, and ready to face modern life challenges wisely and responsibly.
