This research aims to instill the strategies implemented by Christian Religious Education (PAK) teachers in implementing the Independent Learning Curriculum at the junior high school level in rural areas in Indonesia. The Merdeka Belajar curriculum gives teachers more freedom to determine open methods and materials that suit students' needs, but its implementation in rural areas often faces various challenges, such as limited facilities and infrastructure, as well as teachers' unpreparedness to utilize a more flexible and character-based approach. This research uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with several PAK teachers in rural junior high schools as well as observations of the ongoing learning process. The research results show that even though there are obstacles related to facilities and access to technology, PAK teachers in rural areas have succeeded in adapting discussion, project and activity-based learning strategies to practically support students' understanding of Christian religious material and the formation of their character. The use of a more contextual approach, such as teaching Christian values through stories of daily life and social activities, has proven effective in increasing student motivation and participation. However, there is still a need for increased training for teachers as well as greater support from schools and the government so that the implementation of the Independent Learning Curriculum can run more optimally.
