Abstract

This study examines the application of faith formation methods for middle adolescent church members in the context of the digital era, focusing on the integration of technology in the learning process and spiritual development. With the rapid advancement of technology, the challenge for the church is how to maintain the relevance of faith teaching in a world increasingly saturated with digital information. In this context, the applied formation methods adopt a blended learning approach, combining face-to-face teaching with the utilization of digital platforms, such as Bible applications, social media, and online discussion forums. This approach aims to create an interactive space that not only provides easy access to faith resources but also encourages adolescents to actively explore and practice Christian teachings. As expressed by Stryker (2020), “Digital tools can offer the church a unique opportunity to engage with younger generations in ways that are both meaningful and relevant to their daily lives” (Stryker, 2020, p. 135). Therefore, the methods implemented in this faith formation aim to build a deep awareness of faith while inviting adolescents to apply Christian values in their daily lives, both offline and online. This study finds that the use of technology in church formation can increase adolescent participation, enrich their learning experience, and strengthen church community bonds through more open and accessible communication. This method also helps adolescents understand that faith is not merely a tradition detached from the digital world but can be translated into their digital lives. Furthermore, the results of this formation provide valuable insights for churches in formulating faith formation strategies that are not only relevant to technological developments but also maintain spiritual depth and substance. As McLuhan (1964) noted, “The medium is the message,” reminding us that technology itself influences how we interact with the world, including in matters of faith (McLuhan, 1964, p. 27). Therefore, churches need to develop wise approaches to utilizing digital media, ensuring that technology becomes a tool to strengthen faith rather than a distraction from the core teachings of Christ.
