Abstract

This research aims to explore the views of three great world thinkers—Sigmund Freud, Karl Marx, and Friedrich Nietzsche—on religion, especially Christianity, as an "illusion" from a psychological, social, and philosophical perspective. Through an analysis of the theories they put forward, this article examines how they see religion as a construct created by humans, which ultimately becomes a tool to overcome individual inability to face the realities of life. Freud saw religion as a psychological defense mechanism, Marx considered religion an instrument of class oppression, while Nietzsche criticized religion as a form of moral weakness that hinders human progress. In the context of Christianity, doctrines that are considered divine by their adherents are identified as a form of illusion that strengthens power structures and curbs human potential. This research seeks to provide critical insight into the role of religion in the formation of social values and how the three view religion in their broader framework of thinking.
