Abstract

Learning is a complex process involving various theoretical approaches developed by experts to understand how humans acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes. This article briefly reviews the main learning theories, including behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism and humanism. Behaviorism emphasized observable behavior and the influence of the environment through reinforcement and punishment, with major figures such as B.F. Skinner and Ivan Pavlov. Cognitivism, pioneered by Jean Piaget and Jerome Bruner, focuses on mental processes such as memory, problem solving, and understanding. Constructivism, initiated by Lev Vygotsky and Piaget, highlights the active role of individuals in constructing knowledge based on experience and social interaction. Meanwhile, Humanism, developed by Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers, focuses on individual potential, intrinsic motivation, and the need for self-actualization. This article also explores the practical implications of these theories in an educational context, showing how these approaches can be applied to increase the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process. By understanding this theoretical framework, educators can design learning strategies that are more adaptive and appropriate to students' needs.
